ADAPT (Active Directory Authentication Processing Tool) provides an effective solution for developer defined and agency controlled distributed user authentication to information technology portals. It gives users the ability to access many diverse web applications with a single logon. ADAPT is currently managing and providing authentication for all web systems within Alabama’s central law enforcement and criminal justice information portal (AlaCOP). ADAPT targets:
- application developers seeking a flexible, unified service to define user roles on an application basis, and
- information content providers seeking a flexible and scalable solution to manage the proliferation of data sources and data consumers
ADAPT leverages and supplements the standardized Microsoft Active Directory (AD) technology to capture enhanced end-user information and specific portal application data. This enhanced information is tailored for and extendable by those judicial and law enforcement agencies and organizations using the ADAPT approach. Adapt provides:
- distributed end-user authentication,
- end-user ability to request secure access to ADAPT-compliant portals,
- synchronized user accounts across multiple ADAPT enabled domains,
- administrators a one-site access to manage basic user accounts,
- administrators a one-site access to manage user groups,
- administrators a one-site access to assign roles to users on a per application basis,
- administrators a one-site access to manage portal applications,
- developers with a single service to authenticate users,
- developers with a single service to define user roles and application privileges.
ADAPT was developed by CRDL in Conjunction with the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center.
