PUSH, the Portal to Uphold a Secure Homeland system, was funded by the US Department of Homeland Security and developed by the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center and the Alabama Department of Homeland Security.
PUSH is the direct link between State/Federal homeland security officials and security supervisors. Most PUSH participants are in the private sector, but public officials who are involved with security are also encouraged to join (e.g., there are participants from public schools and the post office).
PUSH allows the submission of Terrorist Incident Reports to enable any suspected or confirmed terrorist incidents to be compiled and analyzed by members of the Alabama homeland security Fusion Cell.
The Fusion Cell includes personnel from the Joint Terrorism Task Force and Field Intelligence Group of the FBI, Alabama Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Private Sector Security Supervisors are encouraged to register on PUSH and then to report all potential terrorism-related incidents, no matter how seemingly insignificant.
The PUSH flash page immediately informs PUSH members of any current emergency situations or advisories. PUSH also contains a number of other information capabilities to assist security personnel in their fight against terrorism.
Examples include (1) a daily update of the latest DHS Daily Open Infrastructure Report; (2) documents on emergency response planning and disaster relief; and (3) a searchable index of over 200 links to terrorism-related websites.
PUSH users can access the PERNOSCO web meta-search engine that generates information on businesses and individuals by entering names, addresses or telephone numbers.
According to an ACJIC representative, “We will add capability to PUSH as it is justified by the number of PUSH users. This will include many more documents and a private messaging system so that PUSH members can easily create groups to communicate with those of similar interests.”
